Chief Technology Officer / Robotics Engineer
Lead technical strategy and contribute hands-on to robotics, embedded systems, connected devices, and supporting software at an early-stage pet technology company. The role is part-time, equity-only, and remote/hybrid. A shared living arrangement with the founder may be involved.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical vision, architecture, engineering strategy, and roadmaps.
- Design and develop robotics systems combining mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software components.
- Build, test, debug, and troubleshoot prototypes, electronics, robotics hardware, firmware, software, and integrated systems.
- Contribute to robotics software, embedded software, computer vision, autonomous navigation, control systems, and connected applications.
- Establish standards and procedures for testing, documentation, version control, security, reliability, deployment, and future production.
- Coordinate with engineering contributors, manufacturers, vendors, contractors, and technology partners.
- Evaluate relevant robotics, AI, computer vision, and edge-computing technologies while prioritizing animal safety, reliability, and usability.
Requirements
- Strong software development skills and practical experience in robotics, embedded systems, or connected hardware.
- Hands-on experience developing and debugging robotics or mechatronic systems, integrating hardware and software, and working with sensors, motors, cameras, power systems, and control systems.
- Practical electronics testing and troubleshooting skills, including safe use of common diagnostic equipment and understanding of basic electrical principles.
- Experience with robotics frameworks and/or embedded Linux, and ability to work across software, firmware, hardware, and system integration.
- Product-development, system-architecture, independent troubleshooting, and prototyping experience.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate closely with a small technical team in a remote/hybrid environment.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with ROS/ROS2, autonomous navigation, SLAM, computer vision, or robotic perception.
- Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or similar edge-computing platforms, embedded imaging, and communication interfaces.
- Experience with PCB development, wiring harnesses, power management, soldering, and electronics prototyping.
- Experience taking robotics prototypes through testing and iteration; startup experience or interest in animal welfare and pet technology.
