Product Owner Sustainability (Procurement)

Join an international industrial and technology group to own the roadmap, development, and operation of sustainability, due diligence, and supplier risk tools within procurement. You will drive ESG compliance, tool selection, and cross-functional projects in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the roadmap, further development, and ongoing operation of sustainability, due diligence, and supplier risk tools in procurement.
  • Identify, evaluate, and procure suitable software solutions from requirements definition through market comparison, RFI/RFP, vendor evaluation, negotiation, and implementation.
  • Benchmark existing tools against market alternatives and develop well-founded decision templates for tool selection.
  • Monitor market and IT trends and derive recommendations for tool strategy, architecture, and further development.
  • Translate ESG requirements along the supply chain (LkSG, CSDDD, CBAM, EU Forced Labour Regulation, EUDR, etc.) into functional concepts, workflows, data models, and system requirements in close coordination with the ESG Supply Chain team.
  • Ensure legally compliant and technically correct mapping of ESG requirements in tools, whether internally developed or external.
  • Develop IT concepts (specifications) based on legal and functional requirements and manage their technical implementation.
  • Develop and optimize supplier risk processes: risk segmentation, prioritization, self-assessments, screening, escalation, prevention and remediation measures, audits, and effectiveness monitoring.
  • Take responsibility for data models, data quality, and interfaces, including supplier master data, Databricks, ERP/SAP, Power BI, and relevant EUDR, CBAM, GHG, and LkSG/CSDDD data flows.
  • Ensure information security, role and authorization concepts, audit trails, and traceability, including user permission setup and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and IT security requirements for all tools used.
  • Manage customizing, change requests, incident and problem management, troubleshooting, and releases.
  • Define KPIs and dashboards for data coverage, data quality, risk profiles, measure status, supplier performance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead cross-functional projects and agile product backlog processes together with Procurement, Sustainability, Legal, Compliance, IT, Data Protection, Information Security, Quality, SCM, and Finance.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed a university of applied sciences degree or an 8-semester bachelor's degree.
  • Sound knowledge of procurement processes, especially supplier management, and organizational development.
  • Experience independently leading software tenders (RFI/RFP) and IT implementation projects, with practical experience in introducing and further developing digital tools.
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, and practical experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and Microsoft applications; proficient use of Power BI.
  • Strong procurement process and IT knowledge.
  • Careful, analytical, and solution-oriented working style with a pronounced understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG regulations and a personal interest in sustainability topics.
  • Confident and professional communication with internal departments and domestic and foreign authorities; high stakeholder engagement.
  • Very good German language skills in spoken and written form and business fluent English, especially for close cooperation with the team in Budapest and other international stakeholders.
  • Reliable, independent, and responsible working style, combined with teamwork and a high willingness for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Adaptable, able to maintain an overview even with changing legal frameworks, and actively drive further developments.
