Lead a team of mechanical engineers developing complex, multidisciplinary electro-optical systems from requirements through delivery. The role combines direct people management, technical mentoring, engineering oversight, project leadership, and hands-on mechanical design.
Responsibilities
- Directly manage and mentor mechanical engineers with varied experience levels
- Set project schedules, allocate resources, and manage pricing with business units
- Design mechanical components for electro-optical payloads and support engineers in solving complex design problems
- Lead PDR and CDR processes and review engineering deliverables
- Ensure design quality, integration across assemblies, and compliance with system requirements
- Coordinate with electronics, optics, controls, NPI, systems engineering, and business teams
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized academic institution
- At least 2 years of experience as a team leader or equivalent
- At least 7 years of experience in mechanical design and multidisciplinary systems project leadership
- Experience designing gimbals and drive mechanisms, including motors, encoders, precision bearings, and transmission systems
- Experience with electronic packaging
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks
- Experience with PDM and Priority systems
Nice to have
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Familiarity with MIL-STD environmental, vibration, and temperature standards
- Experience with structural, thermal, and dynamic FEA analyses
