A medical-device company is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineering Manager and R&D Squad Lead to own mechanical engineering and guide multidisciplinary product development from concept through production support.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical engineering domain and serve as its technical authority throughout the product lifecycle.
- Design and provide technical leadership for complex electro-mechanical mechanisms.
- Drive mechanical development from requirements and concept through CAD design, prototyping, integration, verification and validation, production transfer, and ongoing engineering support.
- Define and manage mechanical-electrical interfaces to support system integration.
- Diagnose mechanical and system-level failures, conduct root-cause investigations, and implement engineering solutions and change orders.
- Plan and execute verification, validation, and reliability testing, including dedicated test jigs and setups.
- Lead day-to-day execution of a multidisciplinary R&D squad spanning hardware, software, algorithms, data, and systems engineering.
- Set priorities, manage backlogs and dependencies, and align the squad around project milestones.
- Translate technical objectives into executable plans, track delivery, and manage project risks.
- Work directly with prototypes, complex assemblies, laboratory setups, and testing equipment to resolve engineering challenges.
Requirements
- B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.
- Significant hands-on industry experience in mechanical R&D and complex multidisciplinary device design.
- Experience designing complex electro-mechanical mechanisms and systems.
- Previous leadership experience as a team, group, squad, or technical lead in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Experience in the medical-device industry.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of machining, sheet-metal fabrication, and 3D printing.
- System-level thinking and experience managing interfaces across hardware, software, algorithms, systems engineering, and quality assurance.
- Hands-on experience with verification and validation, reliability testing, test-jig development, root-cause analysis, and engineering change orders.
- Ability to act independently as a mechanical engineering technical authority and make complex engineering decisions.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory work, complex assemblies, and troubleshooting.
- Strong project execution skills, including prioritization, dependency management, and milestone delivery.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
