Senior Backend Engineer - Routing Data

Design, build, and scale backend systems powering a transportation technology platform. Focus on geospatial data pipelines, database optimization, and distributed services in a hybrid role based in Tel Aviv.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend systems and data pipelines for GIS and mapping platform, from design to production deployment and ownership.
- Own features end-to-end including design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain Python data pipelines that ingest, process, and transform large-scale OpenStreetMap and geospatial datasets.
- Model, store, and query complex geospatial data using PostgreSQL and PostGIS including road topology, zones, polygons, and points.
- Optimize database schemas, spatial indexes, and queries for large datasets and high-throughput workloads.
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs exposing geospatial and mapping data to other services and applications.
- Collaborate with product, infrastructure, data, and engineering teams to define system boundaries and data contracts.
- Improve system reliability, observability, and performance through monitoring, alerting, benchmarking, and optimization.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, technical standards, and best practices; mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 6+ years of backend software development experience using Python, Go, Java, or similar languages.
- Strong experience designing and operating distributed systems in production.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to break down complex systems and deliver pragmatic solutions.
- Solid understanding of databases, data modeling, and performance optimization (SQL and NoSQL).
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and production-grade services.
- BSc in Computer Science or equivalent.
Nice to have
- Strong experience with Python in production systems.
- Experience with PostgreSQL with PostGIS or other spatial databases.
- Experience with geospatial systems, event-driven architectures, AWS, Kubernetes, or high-scale data pipelines.
