A payments and commerce platform is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and scale production services using Node.js, TypeScript, and Go. The role combines hands-on backend development, architectural ownership, production support, and technical mentoring.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services with Node.js, TypeScript, and Go.
- Own features from technical design through implementation, deployment, and production support.
- Develop APIs, database integrations, third-party interfaces, and event-driven workflows.
- Improve application performance, database efficiency, and system resilience.
- Troubleshoot production issues, investigate root causes, and implement lasting solutions.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, lead code reviews, and mentor developers.
- Improve automated testing, deployment processes, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with product, frontend, QA, and infrastructure teams on business, security, and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 6 years of backend development experience with ownership of complex production services.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Knowledge of asynchronous programming, the Node.js event loop, error handling, and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of software design, object-oriented design, and database design.
- Experience designing REST APIs and integrating external services.
- Understanding of data consistency, timeouts, retries, idempotency, application security, authentication, authorization, and secure data handling.
- Experience with automated testing, Git, Agile or Scrum, and collaborative development.
- Good written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly.
Nice to have
- Production experience with Go, including goroutines, channels, context cancellation, and concurrent services.
- Experience with microservices, PostgreSQL, NoSQL or graph databases, RabbitMQ or Kafka, and event streaming.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines and working with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Redis, caching, or workflow orchestration.
- Familiarity with GraphQL, gRPC, Vue.js, or React.
- Experience in payments, fintech, billing, subscriptions, or high-volume transaction processing.
