Qlik is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to help build and evolve a distributed data platform for creating, managing, and optimizing Apache Iceberg tables at scale. The role is based in Kfar-Saba or Haifa, Israel, with a hybrid work model.
Responsibilities
- Drive architecture and design decisions for complex engine components
- Design, develop, maintain, and improve core data-engine capabilities
- Investigate and resolve complex production and customer issues
- Improve platform scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability
- Conduct engineering design and code reviews
- Mentor engineers and develop technical expertise across the team
Requirements
- Extensive experience with complex backend or data infrastructure systems
- Strong hands-on experience with Scala
- Strong experience with Apache Iceberg or similar table formats
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, transactions, schema evolution, partitioning, compaction, and performance optimization
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and own critical systems
- Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills
Nice to have
- Experience with Spark, Flink, Trino, or Presto
- Experience with cloud object storage
- Experience modernizing mature data platforms
