Lead Level Artist

Lead the Level Art function for a new third-person survival horror game, combining hands-on location creation with team leadership and workflow development. The role is fully remote, with on-site or hybrid work available for Kyiv-based specialists. Contractor cooperation.

Responsibilities

  • Own location visual quality from blockout through final polish, supporting gameplay, atmosphere, and narrative.
  • Create game locations hands-on.
  • Establish Level Art workflows, documentation, and production standards.
  • Lead and develop the Level Art team by planning tasks, reviewing work, providing feedback, and mentoring artists.
  • Translate visual direction into location-specific solutions in partnership with the Art Director and Game Director.
  • Collaborate with Level Designers to create compelling spaces that meet gameplay needs.
  • Work with Technical Art, Lighting, VFX, Programming, and Production to meet quality, optimization, and performance targets.
  • Define modular kits and environment building blocks for architectural styles and historical periods.
  • Evaluate tools, technologies, and industry practices to improve the pipeline.

Requirements

  • Experience creating game environments or levels in a Level Artist, Environment Artist, or similar role.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating artists in production.
  • Credits on at least one shipped AA or AAA title.
  • Strong understanding of composition, visual storytelling, player navigation, and spatial design.
  • Practical knowledge of modular environment creation and procedural workflows.
  • Proficiency with 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, or similar software.
  • Experience profiling and optimizing environments for real-time performance and memory.
  • Upper-intermediate English or higher; company documentation and official communication are in English.

Nice to have

  • Experience taking a project through release.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5; experience with custom or proprietary engines is also welcome.
  • Experience with atmospheric, narrative-driven, or horror games.
  • Ability to create content through modeling or scanning.
  • A background in architecture, interior design, or a related artistic discipline.
