Responsibilities
- Lead API and frontend teams, remove blockers, review work, and maintain delivery momentum.
- Set engineering standards for performance, reliability, maintainability, and API design.
- Own technical design for product features and the boundary between the application core and frontend.
- Coordinate architecture, code reviews, and design decisions with specialized engineering teams.
- Partner with product managers to translate strategy and roadmap priorities into feasible, well-scoped initiatives.
- Challenge assumptions and propose approaches that improve feasibility, quality, or product impact.
- Bring distributed-systems expertise into product decisions and identify opportunities in peer-to-peer and local-first technology.
- Encourage rapid experimentation using prototypes and AI-assisted development.
- Clarify team goals, responsibilities, priorities, and measures of success.
- Mentor engineering leads and contribute technically when needed while enabling greater team ownership.
Requirements
- Experience managing software engineers or engineering leads delivering consumer-facing products.
- Strong product judgment and ability to identify valuable opportunities while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- Deep JavaScript and React proficiency and sound judgment across modern frontend architectures.
- Understanding of distributed and local-first systems, including offline-first operation and eventual consistency.
- Experience setting engineering standards, guiding architecture, and improving team execution.
- Ability to contribute to product strategy and balance leadership with hands-on technical work.
- Strong communication skills, initiative, curiosity, resilience, and comfort working autonomously in a fast-moving environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with local-first applications, CRDTs, synchronization engines, or offline-capable mobile or desktop apps.
- Open-source project experience.
