NPI / Product Operations Engineer
Lead the transition from engineering to production for advanced defense platforms. Own BOMs, configuration management, and build documentation. Drive DFM/DFA, supplier qualification, and acceptance testing. Establish PLM processes and infrastructure in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) from design to rate production including pilot builds and first-article inspection
- Own the engineering-to-production package: production BOMs, work instructions, assembly and test flows
- Validate BOM completeness, accuracy, and manufacturability
- Lead configuration management processes: ECO/MCO, BOM control, serial-level traceability
- Establish PLM processes and infrastructure including system selection and rollout
- Drive DFM/DFA/DFP feedback into mechanical, electrical, and harness design
- Define and manage the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and qualify build-to-print subcontractors
- Define and validate acceptance testing (ATP) at kit and system level
- Identify and mitigate technical and supply risks early
- Plan and execute retrofit and update campaigns for fielded units
Requirements
- B.Sc. in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on track record
- 5+ years in NPI/Product Operations/manufacturing engineering of complex electro-mechanical systems
- Proven experience establishing a production line and industrializing build-to-print subcontractors
- Strong DFM/DFA experience with demonstrated design changes
- Configuration management fundamentals: ECO/MCO, BOM control, serial-level traceability
- Hands-on experience with first-article inspection, process validation, and acceptance testing
- Ability to define and implement processes where they do not yet exist
- Strong cross-functional collaboration with R&D and Supply Chain
Nice to have
- NPI or production experience in defense, aerospace, or UAV programs including MIL-STD qualification
- Experience with electro-optical assemblies: alignment, calibration, and production handling
- Experience delivering hardware in parallel with qualification and running retrofit campaigns
- Familiarity with MoD program reviews (PDR/CDR/PRR/TRR) and related documentation
- Hands-on experience implementing PLM (and ERP/MRP) systems in a young production environment
- Started as a technician or assembler with ability to build and test units
