Mechanical Engineer
Seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of advanced electro-optical systems. Responsible for concept-to-production design of gimbals, optomechanics, and structures for extreme environments. Requires B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years experience, proficiency in SolidWorks, GD&T, and MIL-STD.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design of electro-optical observation systems from concept to production
- Design gimbals and drive mechanisms including motors, encoders, bearings, and transmission systems
- Develop optomechanical assemblies such as lens mounts, detectors (cooled and uncooled) with high precision and thermal stability
- Design for extreme environments meeting MIL-STD requirements (vibration, shock, extreme temperatures) while optimizing SWaP
- Perform initial structural and thermal FEA analyses as part of the design process
- Support integration by solving real-time problems and assembling prototypes
- Prepare product documentation including production drawings, assembly drawings, and BOM
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution – mandatory
- 5-7 years of experience in mechanical design of military systems and electro-optical payloads
- Knowledge and experience in optomechanical assembly development – mandatory
- Knowledge and experience in electronic packaging – mandatory
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM file management, and Priority ERP
- Deep understanding of manufacturing technologies (precision machining, casting, composites) and DFM/DFA principles
- Full command of GD&T to ensure accuracy and seamless integration
Nice to have
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in developing mechanisms and dynamic systems for extreme environments
- Experience managing subcontractors
- Familiarity with MIL-STD standards (environment, vibrations, temperature)
- Experience in strength, thermal, and dynamic FEA analyses
- Knowledge and experience with task management tools like JIRA
