Lead the backend engineering discipline across an organization by shaping architecture, setting technical standards, mentoring engineers, and driving scalable, reliable software delivery.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Chief Architect on strategic architecture decisions.
- Lead backend engineering practices and technical direction across multiple teams.
- Define and promote backend development standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines.
- Design and review scalable backend services using microservices architectures.
- Drive engineering excellence throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Establish forums for knowledge sharing, technical alignment, and cross-team collaboration.
- Promote cloud-native architectures, modern development practices, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify platform improvement opportunities.
- Provide technical leadership during complex production incidents and critical system initiatives.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building large-scale production systems.
- Experience leading backend engineering practices across multiple teams or organizational units.
- Deep expertise in Java and modern backend development, including Spring Framework.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, resilience, and fault tolerance.
- Strong experience with AWS cloud environments.
- Experience building, optimizing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of AI-driven software development practices.
- Experience with observability, performance profiling, and production incident analysis.
- Strong mentoring, coaching, leadership, and cross-functional influencing skills.
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, banking, payments, or other regulated environments.
- Experience integrating AI capabilities into products.
- Experience with Spec-Driven Development.
