Lead the technical direction, architecture, and delivery of core production data infrastructure for a global marketing technology platform. Own cloud-based databases, data systems, microservices, and 24/7 operational reliability while combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership.
Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction, architecture standards, and engineering guardrails for cloud-based data systems.
- Lead architectural reviews, daily pod operations, Scrum processes, roadmap execution, and multi-project delivery.
- Remain hands-on with code and infrastructure and serve as the primary escalation point for complex production incidents.
- Oversee operational readiness, on-call rotations, high availability, backup and recovery, monitoring, and automation for 24/7 uptime.
- Balance technical debt, feature delivery, design trade-offs, scalability, reliability, and infrastructure cost.
- Mentor engineers, raise technical standards, and support professional development.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and data infrastructure vendors to align technical execution with business goals.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in database administration, DevOps, DataOps, or data engineering with hands-on ownership of production databases such as MySQL, SingleStore, or PostgreSQL.
- Experience designing, operating, and maintaining large-scale data infrastructure, including capacity planning, performance tuning, upgrades, monitoring, and CI/CD.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python, Java, or Go within a microservices architecture, plus Bash scripting.
- Hands-on experience with Linux and at least one major cloud provider; AWS is preferred.
- Experience leading technical design reviews, establishing engineering guardrails, and mentoring engineers.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills for complex cross-system production issues in a 24/7 environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with Snowflake, Kafka, Spark, or other modern big data technologies at scale.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or Ansible.
- Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Team Lead, or Acting Lead on a mission-critical production team.
- Experience integrating AI tools into engineering or operational workflows.
