Senior Technical Artist
A game development recruiter is seeking a senior technical artist for a Chinese mobile sports game developer. The role has art-focused and engineering-focused tracks and is based on-site in Shenzhen.
Responsibilities
- Own visual quality and technical-art implementation for characters, environments, materials, lighting, atmosphere, rendering, post-processing, camera work, and asset production
- Define and protect the project’s art style by translating concept art and references into in-engine standards
- Validate realistic characters, venues, PBR materials, skin, cloth, hair, weather, VFX, and UI–3D integration
- Build and optimize production guidelines, asset specifications, import requirements, and acceptance criteria across art disciplines
- Partner with technical artists and engineers to resolve visual challenges while balancing quality, performance, schedule, and cost
- Develop shaders and optimize animation, visual effects, rendering, and 3D environment performance
- Research and implement core game technologies and technical solutions, including lighting, materials, post-processing, and rendering pipelines
- Explore AI-assisted workflows for concepts, textures, and assets
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in game art or technical art, including 3 or more years as a senior or lead technical artist, and at least one shipped project
- Strong aesthetic judgment and experience with realistic visual styles
- Familiarity with AAA PBR pipelines and realistic character, environment, and event presentation
- Broad understanding of 3D production, including characters, environments, animation, rigging, VFX, UI, lighting, and cinematics
- Strong Unity skills across rendering, lighting, materials, shaders, post-processing, VFX, and performance optimization
- Proficiency with Photoshop, Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Substance, and Unity for the art-focused track
- Master’s degree or higher in computer graphics, computer science, or a related field for the engineering-focused track
- Proficiency in C, C++, or C# with strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and mathematics for the engineering-focused track
- Shader programming experience for the engineering-focused track
- Good English and strong collaborative problem-solving skills
- Portfolio submission with the application

- Interest in sports and sports presentation
- Computer graphics background
- Familiarity with Photoshop, 3ds Max, and Maya
- Experience using AI tools in concept, texture, or asset workflows
