Senior Terrain Artist

Create the diverse, realistic world of an open-world role-playing game as part of a distributed independent game studio. The role is available in person, hybrid, or fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Create large-scale terrain with Unreal Engine 5 and internal tools
  • Sculpt, model, and texture terrain and environmental assets
  • Contribute artistically and technically during concept development
  • Fill gaps in concepts and add details while maintaining the established art direction
  • Collaborate with lead and technical artists to keep assets performant within technical limits
  • Work with level design to support the game world
  • Ensure terrain and assets are visually consistent with the wider game

Requirements

  • Mid- to senior-level terrain art experience
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating world creation, including foliage, rocks, and similar assets
  • Experience working with game engines
  • Proficiency with tools such as Gaia, SpeedTree, ZBrush, and Substance
  • Strong communication and time-management skills
  • Ability to adapt to an established workflow and contribute new ideas
  • Ability to provide reliable task completion estimates

Nice to have

  • Lighting experience
  • Experience with Unreal Engine
  • Experience creating realistic open-world environments
