Join a game development team creating realistic vegetation, foliage assets, and dynamic biomes for an AAA action-shooter title on PC and console. The role is based in Malta, with remote work potentially available within Ukraine; candidates elsewhere must relocate to Malta.
Responsibilities
- Create realistic foliage assets and materials for varied biomes and ecosystems
- Collaborate with the Art Director, Level Artists, Concept Artists, Designers, and wider art team
- Use procedural generation tools to build complex, dynamic biomes efficiently
- Refine vegetation pipelines, features, and processes
- Polish levels from a vegetation perspective while maintaining readability, consistency, and visual impact
- Identify and optimize vegetation assets to meet performance budgets
- Contribute to world-building, atmosphere, storytelling, and player immersion
- Research environmental references and contribute to art bibles and internal documentation
- Use photogrammetry workflows to produce high-quality vegetation
- Mentor junior artists through guidance, feedback, and technical support
Requirements
- At least 5 years of AAA game development experience focused on environment or vegetation art
- Demonstrated ability to create highly realistic, detailed vegetation assets for real-time rendering
- Expertise with SpeedTree, Maya or 3ds Max, ZBrush, Photoshop, Substance Painter, and baking tools
- Strong environment art skills and understanding of forms, structures, shapes, and silhouettes
- Experience with Houdini procedural systems, asset scattering, and biome creation
- Strong understanding of photogrammetry workflows and scanned data integration into game-ready assets
- Understanding of real-time pipelines and performance optimization
- Ability to transform individual assets into cohesive biomes
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Nice to have
- Experience with Unreal Engine, Unity, or other modern game engines
- Hands-on experience with photogrammetry tools and techniques
- Strong English communication skills
- Passion for games, visual quality, and world-building
