Systems Software Team Lead

Lead a software engineering team while remaining hands-on in the design and development of distributed backend and networking systems. The role is approximately 50% hands-on and focuses on complex, real-time, highly available systems. Work arrangement is hybrid and employment is full-time.
Responsibilities
- Design, code, debug, and architect distributed backend and networking components while mentoring engineers and establishing engineering practices.
- Own and evolve system architecture; assess technologies and design for scalability, ultra-low latency, reliability, and high availability.
- Drive engineering from system design and prototyping through development, automated testing, deployment, and production.
- Lead technical execution, set priorities, conduct code reviews, and maintain engineering standards.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and support engineers' professional growth.
- Establish practices for AI-assisted software development, design-first workflows, and test automation.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in backend software development, distributed systems, networking software, or complex real-time software.
- Strong experience with Java or C/C++.
- Demonstrated ability to design and build complex, distributed, high-performance software systems.
- Experience with system architecture, software design, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Ability to contribute hands-on while guiding and mentoring engineers.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Nice to have
- Experience with cellular core, telecom, networking protocols, or network infrastructure, including 3G/4G/5G architecture and 3GPP standards.
- Knowledge of protocols such as GTP, Diameter, PFCP, S1AP, NGAP, or NAS, or telecom services such as VoLTE, VoNR, Lawful Interception, Cell Broadcast, or Non-Terrestrial Networks.
- Experience with Kafka, MongoDB, Couchbase, ELK, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with AWS or GCP.
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment.
- Previous experience as a technical or team lead, senior or staff engineer, or technical authority.
