An early-stage medical device company developing a robotic system with therapeutic ablation energy is seeking a VP R&D to lead engineering from development through clinical support and scale-up.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full R&D function through strategic planning and hands-on execution
- Design and run laboratory and hospital experiments and tests
- Support ongoing clinical trials
- Integrate subcontractors, suppliers, and development partners
- Manage development of the robotic system and therapeutic energy delivery system
- Lead system verification and validation for trials and demonstrations
- Troubleshoot engineering and operational issues
- Perform research, analysis, problem-solving, and documentation using AI tools
- Write engineering protocols, reports, and documentation in English
- Work with quality, regulatory, and company leadership
Requirements
- BSc in mechanical, biomedical, or electrical engineering
- Senior R&D management experience in a medical device company
- Experience with robotic systems
- Experience with therapeutic energy delivery systems, including stimulation, sensing, or ablation
- Professional written and spoken English
- Deep familiarity with medical-device quality and regulatory processes
- Ability to lead teams and build organizational infrastructure
- Ability to manage and integrate multiple suppliers and development streams

- MSc in engineering
- Experience taking medical devices from development through clinical trials
- Hands-on laboratory experimentation and system testing
- Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude
