An Open RAN telecommunications company is hiring a hands-on systems engineer to help develop a multi-RAT digital twin for LTE, 5G NR, and 2G systems. The role combines communication-system modeling, software integration, simulation, automated testing, and AI/ML evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate a modular, multi-RAT RAN digital twin covering LTE and 5G NR.
- Integrate production RAN software with PHY, channel, UE, traffic, and network models.
- Model traffic, mobility, scheduling, interference, and performance behavior in communication systems.
- Build C/C++ and Python components for simulation, automation, data processing, and analysis.
- Develop datasets, experiment pipelines, and automated analysis tools for system and algorithm evaluation.
- Support AI/ML capabilities for communication systems and network optimization.
- Create reproducible experiments and tests across builds and algorithm versions.
- Perform simulation verification and validation against laboratory results and reference measurements.
- Develop unit, component, end-to-end, regression, and performance tests within CI/CD workflows.
- Improve simulation speed, usability, observability, and repeatability.
- Debug issues across C/C++, Python, MATLAB, system software, configurations, and measurements.
- Document assumptions, supported scenarios, limitations, and experiment results.
- Collaborate with RAN, PHY, systems, AI/ML, automation, and validation teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant master’s degree.
- At least 2 years of hands-on software development experience in communication systems or a related telecommunications environment.
- Strong development skills in C or C++ and Python.
- Understanding of communication systems and the ability to learn new technical concepts quickly.
- Experience with Linux development, Git, automated testing, and modern software practices.
- Strong analytical and independent problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration with software, systems, algorithms, and validation teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with simulation environments, system-level modeling, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, RAN, modem/PHY, or wireless communication systems.
- Experience with MATLAB and communication-system simulation or analysis tools.
- Experience with NumPy, SciPy, pandas, scientific computing, or data analysis.
- Exposure to AI/ML, time-series analysis, signal processing, or network optimization.
- Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, or similar machine-learning frameworks.
- Knowledge of digital communications and signal processing.
- Experience with automated testing, containers, CI/CD, or cloud development environments.
- Familiarity with SDR, radio test equipment, lab automation, or field-log analysis.
