Lead a hands-on engineering team building distributed, event-driven payment systems. Own technical direction, architecture, delivery, production reliability, and engineer development while continuing to write and review code.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team building systems that authorize, settle, and reconcile payment transactions
- Write and review production code and own architecture for a distributed, event-driven platform
- Own team delivery, technical execution, production quality, and participation in the on-call rotation
- Set technical direction and make cross-system engineering decisions
- Run one-to-one meetings, provide feedback, delegate ownership, and help engineers advance
- Recruit engineers as the team grows
- Define effective team workflows for agentic engineering tools and contribute to customer-facing agent-driven systems
Requirements
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including 2–3 years leading engineers as a team lead, tech lead, or manager
- Proven experience hiring, mentoring, developing, and giving clear feedback to engineers
- Deep proficiency in at least one modern programming language
- Experience with TypeScript and Node.js, or the ability to learn them quickly
- Strong production-scale distributed systems experience on a major cloud provider, preferably AWS
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture, container orchestration, infrastructure as code, observability, debugging, and incident response
- Regular practical use of agentic engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent tools
- Ability to remain hands-on with complex technical work while leading a team
Nice to have
- Experience shipping AI or agentic features in production
- Background in fintech, payments, or marketplace platforms
- Experience leading organization-wide adoption of agentic engineering tools beyond a pilot
