Mechanical Design Engineer II
Design and improve moderately complex mechanical subsystems for advanced defense products. The role covers CAD modeling, engineering analysis, drawings, testing, manufacturing collaboration, and product lifecycle changes.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical subsystem designs that meet product requirements and cost targets.
- Create and review drawings with functional dimensioning, GD&T, and ASME Y14.5 compliance.
- Perform tolerance stack analyses and engineering analyses using appropriate simulation tools.
- Process engineering change orders and release or revise parts, assemblies, and product records through PLM systems.
- Create test plans, support testing, analyze test data, and prepare reports and recommendations.
- Lead design-for-manufacturing reviews and identify opportunities to reduce part costs.
- Evaluate inspection data and assess supplier non-conformances.
- Manage intellectual property activities, including patent searches, applications, and trade studies.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, assembly, product management, suppliers, and test teams.
- Support continuous improvement, 5S standards, technical information, and R&D engineering practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Three to six years of engineering experience in an R&D environment.
- Proficiency with CAD software for parametric solid models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
- Experience with mechanical analysis such as FEA, kinematic and dynamic motion, CFD, or heat transfer.
- Knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y14.5, functional dimensioning, inspection methods, and tolerance stack analysis.
- Understanding of mechanical assembly techniques and manufacturing methods.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with limited guidance.
- Ability to travel infrequently and comply with safety, PPE, ISO, and EH&S requirements.
Nice to have
- SolidWorks and PLM experience, including Agile.
- Tolerance stack analysis software experience.
- Experience with firearms or related products.
- Experience with relevant manufacturing processes, materials, heat treatment, and coatings.
