Optical Engineer
Seeking an Optical Engineer to design optical channels from concept to production, performing simulations, analysis, and supplier coordination for defense and space systems.
Responsibilities
- Plan optical channels from requirements and concept through detailed design, optimization, simulations, and sensitivity analysis.
- Design optical channels for observation, imaging, laser, and lighting systems from visible to far infrared, meeting performance and size/weight/material constraints.
- Perform stray light analysis, mechanical tolerance analysis, coating selection, and thermal effects evaluation.
- Develop solutions for manufacturing deviations and varying environmental conditions.
- Prepare requirement specifications and drawings, lead surveys, interface with suppliers, and plan acceptance tests and production processes.
- Assemble and calibrate optical components and assemblies.
- Evaluate and implement advanced optical technologies such as flat optics, adaptive optics, and advanced detectors.
- Collaborate with mechanical, control, electronics, and image processing disciplines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics/Engineering with specialization in Optics.
- At least 5 years of experience in optical design and simulations, including thermal aspects.
- Experience with fixed focal length and zoom lenses, achromatic and athermal designs.
- Experience in designing and analyzing refractive, reflective, and diffractive optical systems.
- Experience with optical measurement equipment: collimators, interferometers, integrating spheres, blackbodies, and various cameras.
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and manage subcontractors.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with manufacturing technologies of optical components, materials, and coatings.
- Experience in defense companies and observation systems in particular.
- Experience using artificial intelligence tools.
