Mid-level mechanical engineer responsible for developing and improving moderately complex subsystems for advanced defense products. The role covers design, engineering analysis, drawings, testing, manufacturing collaboration, and product lifecycle updates.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical subsystem designs that meet product requirements and cost targets
- Create and review fully dimensioned drawings using functional dimensioning, GD&T, and ASME Y14.5
- Perform tolerance stack analyses and subsystem engineering analyses
- Identify quality assurance characteristics and support FMECA-related activities
- Process engineering change orders and release or revise parts, assemblies, and SKUs through PLM
- Create test plans, coordinate testing, analyze test data, and prepare reports and recommendations
- Conduct design-for-manufacturing reviews and identify part cost-reduction opportunities
- Evaluate inspection data and determine the acceptability of supplier non-conformances
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, assembly, product management, suppliers, and test teams
- Support patent searches, patent applications, trade studies, continuous improvement, and technical information activities
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- 3–6 years of engineering experience in an R&D environment
- Experience with CAD software for parametric models, assemblies, and engineering drawings
- Ability to perform analyses such as FEA, motion, CFD, or heat transfer
- Knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y14.5, tolerance analysis, and inspection methods
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, heat treatment, and coatings
- Experience with mechanical assembly techniques
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with limited guidance
- Ability to travel infrequently and follow safety, ISO, PPE, and range procedures

- Experience with PLM systems such as Agile
- Tolerance stack analysis software experience
- Firearms or related product experience
