Lead technical strategy and architecture across multiple engineering teams while remaining hands-on with high-risk, high-impact backend development. The role focuses on distributed systems, reliability, security, and technical excellence in a regulated financial environment.
Responsibilities
- Translate business goals into cross-team technical strategy and architecture
- Own system design, service boundaries, data models, technology choices, and technical tradeoffs
- Define coding, testing, security, observability, and operational-readiness standards
- Align engineering managers and teams around platform-level technical decisions
- Resolve complex problems involving scale, latency, reliability, integrations, and production incidents
- Identify technical gaps and drive improvements across teams
- Mentor engineers and develop senior technical talent
- Prototype and deliver high-risk, high-leverage code
- Set quality, security, and compliance standards for real-time financial systems
Requirements
- 8+ years building and operating production software
- Deep experience with distributed backend systems at scale
- Experience leading technical direction across multiple teams without formal authority
- Strong system design skills, including scale, reliability, latency, cost, and security tradeoffs
- Deep expertise in a primary backend stack, preferably .NET/C#, with the ability to work in other stacks such as Node.js
- Experience with cloud platforms, large-scale data, real-time and streaming systems, CI/CD, and observability
- Strong security and compliance awareness
- Clear technical writing and decision alignment skills
- Self-directed approach and willingness to remain hands-on
- Commitment to mentoring and developing engineers
Nice to have
- Experience in financial services or another regulated domain
- Experience with backend stacks beyond the primary stack
