Design and build stable optical and opto-mechanical subsystems for trapped-ion quantum computing platforms, from prototypes through production-ready designs. The role is based at the Science Park in Nes Ziona and collaborates with experimental and theoretical research groups.
Обязанности
- Lead opto-mechanical design of optical modules, including mounts, subassemblies, interfaces, beam-delivery modules, and vacuum-compatible components.
- Develop stable free-space optical layouts for beam shaping, splitting, polarization management, mode matching, and fiber coupling.
- Create detailed mechanical drawings, tolerancing analyses, and assembly documentation.
- Simulate optical and mechanical performance, including beam propagation, thermal and vibration sensitivity, and mechanical stiffness.
- Assemble, align, and characterize optical modules.
- Coordinate with mechanical, systems, and quantum-hardware teams to integrate modules into vacuum systems and ion-trap environments.
- Support the transition of R&D prototypes into manufacturable, production-ready subsystems.
Требования
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in optics, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience designing opto-mechanical assemblies, such as mounts, flexures, alignment stages, beam-delivery modules, or precision optical packaging.
- Experience building, aligning, and testing optical and opto-mechanical assemblies.
- Strong knowledge of free-space optical alignment, beam shaping, polarization control, and optical laboratory practices.
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor, and familiarity with mechanical tolerancing.
- Experience with optical simulation tools such as Zemax/OpticStudio, Code V, or Python/MATLAB beam-propagation tools.
- Understanding of Gaussian optics, stability analysis, and opto-mechanical coupling.
- Ability to produce assembly drawings, alignment procedures, and test reports.

- Background with ultra-stable optical systems, such as frequency-stabilized lasers or low-drift platforms.
- Experience integrating optics into ultra-high-vacuum chambers or compact instruments.
- Familiarity with vibration isolation, thermal management, and long-term alignment stability.
- Experience with atomic, molecular, and optical physics or quantum-optics systems.
- Ph.D. in a relevant field.
