Project Manager
Experienced Project Manager to lead environmental projects in Kazakhstan, focusing on water security, climate adaptation, and sustainable resource management. Duties include planning, budgeting, M&E, stakeholder coordination, and resource mobilization, ensuring UNDP standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate designated environmental projects, ensuring alignment with project documents and UNDP procedures.
- Develop annual work plans, budgets, and revisions; oversee day-to-day project operations.
- Provide technical and strategic guidance on thematic areas such as water resources, critical materials, and circular economy.
- Monitor progress, manage risks, and ensure timely reporting to the Project Board and donors.
- Supervise project personnel, consultants, and subcontractors; lead exit strategy planning.
- Build and maintain partnerships with government, IFIs, academia, and private sector; mobilize resources.
- Facilitate capacity building, knowledge sharing, and advocacy on environmental governance.
- Support M&E activities, mid-term reviews, and terminal evaluations.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Geology, Mining, Metallurgy, Economics, Social Sciences, or related field; Bachelor’s with additional 2 years’ experience may be considered.
- Minimum 2 years (with master’s) or 4 years (with bachelor’s) of experience in managing development projects.
- Experience with MS Office, web-based management systems, spreadsheets and databases.
- Knowledge in water resources, natural resources, critical materials, mining, metallurgy, circular economy, or climate change.
- Fluency in English and Russian and/or Kazakh.
Nice to have
- Experience working with ministries or national institutions.
- Prior experience within the UN system.
- Broader thematic knowledge in environmental governance.
