Mechanical Design Team Lead

Lead a team of 5+ mechanical engineers in designing high-precision opto-mechanical systems for optical applications. Manage the full design lifecycle—from concept through manufacturing—while collaborating with optical, thermal, and structural teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 5+ mechanical engineers across multiple sites
  • Lead the design of complex, high-precision mechanical systems for optical applications
  • Own the full mechanical design lifecycle from concept definition to production support
  • Review and approve detailed drawings according to GD&T standards
  • Collaborate with optical, structural, and thermal analysis teams on system-level decisions
  • Lead technical communication with suppliers and subcontractors; support procurement and manufacturing

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from a leading university
  • 10+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience
  • Proven experience leading a mechanical engineering team of 5+ engineers
  • Strong background in opto-mechanical or precision mechanical systems
  • Expert knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing drawings
  • Hands-on experience with SolidWorks and PDM
  • Experience with structural and thermal analysis tools
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in Defense, Aerospace, or Space industries
  • Experience with environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal vacuum)
  • Experience with optical alignment and integration processes
  • M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
