Lead Mechanical Engineer
Lead Mechanical Engineer responsible for overseeing a team of 7-8 engineers in the design of complex electro-optical payloads and defense systems. Drive end-to-end mechanical design from concept to production, ensuring compliance with military standards. Hands-on role requiring expertise in gimbal assemblies, precision mechanisms, and electronic packaging.
Responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of 7–8 Mechanical Engineers, balancing direct management with hands-on design (40–50%).
- Oversee the full mechanical design lifecycle of electro-optical payloads and defense systems, from initial concept through PDR, CDR, to mass production.
- Provide technical mentorship, conduct design reviews, and ensure structural integrity and compliance with strict military standards.
- Design complex gimbal assemblies, high-precision motion mechanisms, and integrate motors, encoders, precision bearings, and electronic enclosures.
- Collaborate with Optical, Systems, Electronics, Thermal, and Production teams to meet environmental and performance requirements.
Requirements
- B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized academic institution.
- 2+ years of direct managerial experience leading Mechanical Engineering teams.
- 7+ years of hands-on mechanical design in multidisciplinary defense systems, particularly electro-optical payloads.
- Proven expertise in gimbal design and precision drive mechanisms (motors, encoders, bearings, transmissions).
- Strong practical experience in Electronic Packaging (enclosures/housing design).
- High proficiency in SolidWorks CAD, PDM, and ERP systems (e.g., Priority).
Nice to have
- M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Familiarity with Military Standards (MIL-STD for environmental, vibration, thermal conditions).
- Experience with Structural, Thermal, and Dynamic Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
