Senior Director of Platform Engineering
Lead a multi-regional platform engineering group of approximately 45 engineers, driving the technical strategy for a cloud-native Kubernetes-based platform that powers global RAN deployments. This hands-on leadership role combines people management with technical direction, focusing on AI-assisted development, system observability, and CI/CD modernization within the telecommunications industry.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multi-regional engineering organization of approximately 45 engineers across five teams and four countries.
- Drive technical strategy for the cell-site software platform built on Kubernetes (EKSA/SUSE) in a cloud-native architecture.
- Champion cross-team collaboration within the broader R&D organization.
- Spearhead adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows to accelerate engineering productivity.
- Improve system debuggability and observability across complex, distributed deployments.
- Lead modernization efforts for legacy codebases while maintaining production stability.
- Define and formalize team-level KPIs aligned with SAFe practices.
- Enhance CI/CD pipelines and automation to improve delivery velocity and quality.
- Balance real-time constraints, resource management, and networking requirements inherent to RAN software.
Requirements
- BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience managing multi-regional engineering teams.
- Strong technical background in Kubernetes and cloud-native development.
- Proficiency in C/C++; familiarity with Python and Bash.
- Understanding of real-time systems, networking, and resource management concepts.
- Experience working in Agile environments (SAFe experience is a plus).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across cultures and time zones.
- Telecom or wireless industry experience, or experience in adjacent fields such as communications systems or real-time constrained products.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with O-RAN Alliance specifications or 3GPP standards.
- Experience with observability and debugging tools for distributed systems (tracing, logging, metrics).
- Track record of successfully modernizing or refactoring legacy codebases at scale.
- Hands-on experience implementing AI/ML tools in engineering workflows (code assistants, test generation, etc.).
- Experience scaling CI/CD infrastructure and developer tooling.
