Senior Backend Engineer role at a fast-growing insurance technology startup. Own end-to-end feature development, leverage AI tools daily, and collaborate with product and design.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end development of complex features from ideation to production, including architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Make independent tradeoff decisions balancing speed, scale, maintainability, and user value.
- Use AI tools (Claude Code, ChatGPT, etc.) as a core part of daily workflow for coding, debugging, and problem-solving.
- Actively explore and advocate for improved workflows and tools to boost team productivity.
- Collaborate across engineering, product, and design to align on priorities and technical solutions.
- Work through ambiguity by framing constraints and proposing actionable solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience, primarily in Node.js or Java.
- Proven experience shipping features in SaaS or product-led environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
- Strong ownership mindset with ability to drive solutions independently.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot).
- Experience with TypeScript.
- Frontend experience with Angular (preferred), React, or Vue.
- Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker.
- Experience with Loveable.
- Experience with logging services like Datadog or Splunk.
