P2P Node.js Engineer
Design and optimize peer-to-peer networking and distributed systems using Node.js. Focus on P2P protocols, UDP/TCP, NAT traversal, binary serialization, and cryptography for high-performance, low-latency communication across unreliable networks.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop core peer-to-peer networking and storage primitives using Node.js and JavaScript.
- Implement and optimize P2P protocols including Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, and hypercore.
- Build high-performance networking code and custom binary protocols with efficient serialization.
- Apply cryptographic primitives for secure peer-to-peer communication.
- Profile and optimize networked systems to improve throughput, latency, and reliability.
- Contribute to distributed systems designed for unreliable networks.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of peer-to-peer protocols and distributed networking (Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, or hypercore).
- Advanced JavaScript and Node.js development skills for high-performance networking applications.
- Strong understanding of UDP, TCP/IP, networking fundamentals, and NAT traversal.
- Experience implementing custom binary protocols and serialization formats.
- Familiarity with cryptographic primitives and their application in secure P2P communication.
- Proven ability to profile, debug, and optimize networked systems.
- Excellent English communication skills for distributed team collaboration.
Nice to have
- 5+ years of experience building production-grade P2P or distributed systems.
- Knowledge of V8 internals, JavaScript performance characteristics, libuv, or asynchronous I/O in C.
- Experience with Node.js native addons and bridging JavaScript with C.
- Contributions to open-source P2P projects or networking libraries.
Benefits
- 100% remote position with flexibility to work from anywhere.
- Opportunity to work on challenging P2P networking and distributed systems technologies.
- International, remote-first environment with a globally distributed engineering team.
- High degree of autonomy and ownership over technically challenging work.
- Opportunity to contribute to open-source technologies and projects.
- Collaborative environment focused on technical excellence and innovation.
