Database Administrator
Own the health, performance, and availability of MSSQL production databases and Amazon Redshift clusters. Design schemas, lead HA/DR, manage migrations, and automate DBA tasks in a high-scale enterprise environment.
Responsibilities
- Own the health, performance, and availability of the MSSQL production estate.
- Design and tune schemas, indexes, queries, and stored procedures for large-scale, high-concurrency workloads.
- Lead high availability and disaster recovery: backup/restore strategy, replication, failover, and recovery testing.
- Manage and optimize Amazon Redshift clusters, including distribution/sort key design, WLM, and query performance.
- Own schema versioning and migration pipelines integrated into CI/CD using Flyway.
- Partner with R&D on schema design, migrations, and release readiness.
- Build monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning systems.
- Drive automation of routine DBA work and define standards and runbooks.
- Use AI tools (Claude, Copilot) for SQL generation, automation scripts, and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- 6+ years as an MSSQL DBA with expert-level query optimization, execution plans, indexing, locking, and T-SQL.
- Proven experience with large-scale databases: high volume, high concurrency, multi-terabyte.
- Hands-on production experience with Amazon Redshift or comparable MPP warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Experience with schema versioning and migration tooling integrated into CI/CD (Flyway, Liquibase).
- Strong HA/DR, backup/recovery, and replication experience.
- Scripting for automation (PowerShell, Python, or similar).
- Practical experience using AI assistants for real work: scripts, queries, automation, documentation.

- Experience migrating from MSSQL to PostgreSQL.
- Cloud database experience on AWS (RDS).
- Multi-tenant SaaS environments.
- MongoDB or other non-relational engines.
- ETL/ELT tooling and modern data stack exposure.
- Database security and compliance (SOC 2, GDPR).
