Seeking a mid-level Ruby on Rails Developer to build and maintain backend applications and RESTful APIs. Responsibilities include debugging production issues, optimizing performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Contract role based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend applications and RESTful APIs with Ruby on Rails.
- Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable solutions.
- Write clean, testable code; participate in code reviews and design discussions.
- Optimize application performance, database queries, and system stability.
- Build automated test suites using RSpec.
- Support deployments, releases, and emergency fixes.
- Document technical runbooks and knowledge base articles.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on Ruby on Rails development experience.
- Strong understanding of Ruby and Rails framework concepts.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency with relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL, including query optimization.
- Familiarity with Redis and background job frameworks such as Sidekiq.
- Solid grasp of OOP principles and design patterns.
- Experience with RSpec testing.
- Working knowledge of Git and version control workflows.
- Familiarity with Linux command-line operations.
- Understanding of application performance and caching strategies.
Nice to have
- Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Experience with MongoDB or NoSQL databases.
- Knowledge of API security concepts (OAuth, JWT).
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Background in FinTech, Banking, or high-scale transactional systems.
