Senior RAN Digital Twin and AI Simulation Engineer
A telecommunications technology company is hiring a senior individual contributor to lead a multi-RAT digital twin for Open RAN systems. The role combines wireless systems engineering, production software integration, simulation, and AI/ML evaluation across LTE, 5G NR, and future 2G support.
Responsabilidades
- Own the architecture and roadmap for a modular, multi-RAT RAN digital twin.
- Integrate production MAC and scheduler software into deterministic closed-loop simulations.
- Model PHY processing, propagation, UE behavior, traffic, interference, mobility, HARQ, link adaptation, and power control.
- Extend LTE simulation capabilities and create reusable abstractions for 5G NR and 2G stacks.
- Design calibrated fidelity levels spanning high-fidelity PHY execution and faster surrogate models.
- Develop and evaluate AI/ML capabilities such as neural channel estimation, learned link adaptation, scheduling policies, and PHY surrogates.
- Build datasets and experiment pipelines, establish algorithmic baselines, and measure accuracy, robustness, generalization, latency, and compute cost.
- Create reproducible A/B experiments with defined scenarios, seeds, configurations, and wireless-performance KPIs.
- Establish simulation verification and validation practices using lab comparisons, calibration, divergence analysis, version tracking, and evidence reports.
- Build automated unit, component, end-to-end, regression, and performance tests for CI/CD.
- Improve simulation speed, scalability, observability, and usability for engineering teams.
- Investigate discrepancies across C/C++, Python, MATLAB, PHY models, production software, configurations, and reference measurements.
- Document model assumptions, limitations, calibration provenance, and validity across simulation and ML backends.
- Coordinate with RAN, PHY, systems, AI/ML, automation, and lab-validation teams.
Requisitos
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience in communications systems, system development, integration, or simulation.
- Experience building or validating link-level, system-level, or hardware-in-the-loop simulations and assessing model validity.
- Strong C or C++ and Python programming skills, including integration of native production code with simulation and analysis tools.
- Experience with scientific computing and data analysis using tools such as NumPy, SciPy, pandas, and visualization frameworks.
- Sound experimental and statistical judgment, including reproducibility, baselines, error analysis, uncertainty, calibration, controlled comparisons, and prevention of data leakage.
- Experience with Linux, Git, automated testing, containers, and CI/CD.
- Ability to lead technically ambiguous initiatives, make architecture decisions, and communicate across research, product, development, and validation teams.
Se valora
- PhD in wireless communications, signal processing, or a related field.
- Experience applying machine learning to communications, signal processing, or time-series data with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent tools.
- Knowledge of LTE and 5G NR L1/L2 behavior, digital communications, signal processing, MIMO, channel estimation, and propagation models.
- Experience with MATLAB communications toolboxes, production eNodeB/gNodeB or modem software, Open RAN products, or 3GPP specifications.
